First

After a long while not writing, I am thrilled to share the first batch of Shoka containers from RSR's first artist commission. Very much like the spring-coming this year on the East Coast, it has been slow but we are very glad that we took the time to carefully conceive what we want. The containers in this first batch are designed with extra attention to the dimensions of Shoka containers. We altered the standard dimensions of these silhouettes of Shoka containers slightly so that they are big enough for arrangements with branches but also small enough for arrangements with just stems. The mouth of the containers are slightly made wider to further emphasis the water surface that is so very important in ikebana. Thanks to Nell's experience in making ikebana containers, their narrow neck are of great strength and will hold the heaviest kenzan and arrangement in place. I cannot wait to visit her studio again the end of this month to look at more of them in the making.
